$23,000 Goal Surpassed for Film! Sun: Discussion of Bob Avakian's Reflection on the Occupy Movement

We made it!! We surpassed our goal of $23,000 to fund the film
Occasioned by BAsics: A Celebration of Revolution and a New World
with 8 hours to spare! Go to indiegogo.com/basicsevent [here]
to see latest figures, donor list, and comments.

Yesterday Revolution Books LA held an exciting fundraising event to
contribute to this effort with Michael Slate and two members of
Outernational band who performed at the April 11 celebration in Harlem.
After viewing the film trailer, the three speakers talked about what it
was like to be part of a cultural event that portends a different and
better future, sharing their favorite parts of the evening.

We raised $1,259 at this event, surpassing our goal of $1,000.  After
we collected $300 at the door, an immigrant made a generous sacrifice
of $300 to make sure this film is made.  After the lofty fund pitch, we
passed the hat, gathering another $275 from the full house, and then
raised the remainder from the sale of 150 delicious tlayocos (Mexican
empanadas) which were made by an unemployed person who loves
reading Revolution newspaper and has begun reading BAsics.

Thanks to everyone who helped make this fundraiser a success and a
lot of fun, too!

The campaign to get BA everywhere! is building momentum.  To

A REFLECTION ON THE "OCCUPY" MOVEMENT:
AN INSPIRING BEGINNING...AND THE NEED TO GO FURTHER.

Discussion of Bob Avakian's Reflection on the Occupy
Movement with Michael Slate,
Revolutionary Communist Radio Host at KPFK
Sunday, Dec. 18th at 2 PM

The Occupy protests have raised the hopes of millions in this country and
worldwide. Profound discontent with the inequality and injustice in this
society has burst to the surface. The atmosphere and discourse in society is
changing, and millions are thinking about and asking big questions about
the ways things are-and whether and how a different future would be
possible. Over the last few weeks, this movement has been repressed in
what appear to be coordinated attacks to savagely evict encampment after
encampment across the country. This movement stands at a crossroads-
in the largest sense.

- Where to now?
- What is the essence of this crossroads and how are we to understand it?
- What direction should this movement take?
- And with what understanding and orientation?
- How will the injustice and inequality this movement is targeting actually be
  overcome?
- What kind of leadership is needed to bring that about?

Bob Avakian addresses these questions and more in
"A Reflection on the 'Occupy' Movement: An Inspiring Beginning...
and the Need to Go Further." It is critically important to read, distribute
and deeply discuss this statement. And let the ferment and debate spread
and heighten in every corner of society.

(Bob Avakian will not be present at the discussion.)

Get this Reflection out to all those who have been spurred to think about the
nature and state of this society and to consider how to bring into being a far
better world and future. And forward to Revolution correspondence about
your experience and discussions!

"BA Everywhere" Update; BAsics E-book Available Now!

BA EVERYWHERE - Update on mass campaign to raise big money to get BA's vision and works into every corner of society:

Succeeding with the goal: $23,000 by Monday, December 12 for the film Occasioned by BAsics: A Celebration of Revolution and the Vision of a New World ($8,779 to go!):

Film Concept:
Last April in Harlem, a range of artists, musicians, dancers and actors came together from a diversity of perspectives in a unique cultural event On the Occasion of the Publication of BAsics: A Celebration of Revolution and the Vision of a New World.  BAsics is a book of quotations and short essays from Bob Avakian, the revolutionary leader who has developed a new synthesis of communism. This event brought people together who hadn't shared a stage before, and a remarkable connection was forged between these artists and the hundreds in the audience that night...This film will tell the story of what those artists did and why they did it. [Read more at revcom.us - here].

For everyone who has dreamed of a different and better world or wondered how art and culture can be part of creating it, this is a film that needs to be seen.  But it won't be made without your support.  Go to indiegogo.com/basicsevent now, watch the trailer and make a donation.  Then ask others to do the same.

For updates from Indiegogo fundraising team for the film, including two important new  fundraising party ideas, click on the “Updates” tab at:  http://www.indiegogo.com/Occasioned-by-BAsics-A-Celebration-of-Revolution-The-Vision-of-a-New-World.

Join Michael Slate and two Outernational band members discussing the film on SUNDAY, DEC. 11th, at 2 pm at Revolution Books L.A.  Come and bring others.  $10 at the door.  Help raise $1,000 for the film at this event.

As a donation, some folks have prepared Mexican-style empanadas (meat and vegetarian) for sale at this Sunday Revolution Books event - $2 each individually or you can buy them in bunches - as a contribution towards the $1,000 goal!

Check out this youtube promo of the film by Outernational [click here].

URGENT: December Bookstore Rent and OLA Bail Needed!

URGENT: BAIL NEEDED!!
 la opinion ola
(photo from front page of La Opinion, 11/29/11)

Tuesday night, as you undoubtedly saw, in person or on the news, the largest encampment of the Occupy movement was shut down.  300 courageous protesters, including several Revolution Books staff and supporters, were surrounded and arrested by a massive force of 1,400 riot police, armed with sonic weapons, bean bag guns, and more. Many other people stood in solidarity at City Hall, while still more were blocked by police from joining the defense of Occupy L.A.  Clearly, this national movement has stung the powers-that-be who find it unacceptable for people to begin to live a new collective ethos and to resist the horrors of today's world.
The arrestees have been denied release on their own recognizance, and are being held on $5,000 bail each, for a misdemeanor charge.  This punitive charge is meant to prevent continued resistance to the attack and to try to cripple the movement financially.  Donate generously to bail out our volunteer staff and supporters so they can immediately continue their work.  As quoted in the Nov. 29th LA Times editorial, "At the Revolution Books table, Nicole Lee explained, 'It's a protracted struggle.'"
